You can search our website for previews and reviews containing matching words or patterns. For example, search by actor's last name, theater, title of play, director's last name, publication, month, year etc.

Please be aware that a play might be reviewed in more than one publication or venue, so you might want to look at more than one review.

Archives are complete back to 1990.

* Search Tips:

Boolean searches are supported. For example, to find references to "La Jolla Playhouse" you could enter the words La Jolla Playhouse and select "exact phrase" in the box below the name. If a word MUST be present, type + before the word. If you want to omit articles containing a particular word, type - before the word. Capitalization does not matter in your search terms.

A good way to find all references to a particular person is to type a few characters of the first name, then a space, and then a plus sign followed by the last name. For example brian +salmon would find all references to actor Brian Salmon. Please note that without the plus sign (i.e., brian salmon), the search would have returned every reference that had the letters brian as well as every reference that had salmon. So, references to Brian Friel, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Brian Wells, etc. would be shown, which is not what you wanted for this search.

If you're searching for the word "theater" please be aware that it is often, but not always, spelled as "theatre." It might be helpful to enter both versions in the list of words for the search (for example, +globe theater theatre). As you might imagine, the words "theater" and "theatre" appear MANY times in the references found on this web site; it would be a good idea to add some additional words when you run your search.

The more specific you can be with your search terms, the faster you'll find what you're looking for. For example, "+globe theater theatre" would return roughly 150 references;  adding the year "+globe theater theatre +2002" narrows the list to fewer than 20 references.

* Guide to File Names:

A brief description of nomenclature might assist you to understand at a glance when and where a particular article was published. Filenames consist of 2 letters, followed by 6 numbers, then .htm. The 6 numbers are the last 2 digits of the year, followed by the month and day. 00 is used when dates are unclear.

The 2-letter prefix indicates the publication:
